Secondary support at the Igloo

Ten games into the season and the Penguins are averaging three goals per game. That’s one goal per game less than where they should be, given their talent level.

Think about it. With 10 more goals this season, there would be 25 more points - give or take - to go around. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin would likely have a few more points each, but the main beneficiaries would be the secondary offense. The fact players such as Ryan Malone, Colby Armstrong, Jordan Staal and Erik Christensen have yet to record their fourth point of the season is the very reason Pittsburgh has 10 less goals than they should.

I received a question this week from Steve Emmert asking me which players are on my buy low list, and which are on the sell high. So this week I’ll focus on buy low candidates and next week I’ll address the sell high side. Some of the buy low targets might actually be free agents in some leagues, so if that’s the case, just consider them nice pick-ups instead of trade targets.

Just going over the monthly player rankings (they'll be up soon) and this obviously take careful team-by-team analysis. Anything shocking, I'll quickly throw my thoughts up here. Shock number one: suddenly, Shawn Horcoff is leading the Oil in scoring. Wha?  The cavalry is coming for the Ducks - Getzlaf, Schneider and Neidermayer (Rob) could all be [...]

I heard from a second source that Shannon is on the shelf for a month. Also, the 'Nucks are mulling over recalling Jannick Hansen.  The Canucks have sent Mason Raymond to the Manitoba Moose. He just wasn't producing. This would be the time for them to recall Ryan Shannon... but I am hearing that Shannon hurt [...]

Coyotos future scoring savior and former 3rd overall pick, Kyle Turris, has 12 points in his first 4 collegiate games for the University of Wisconsin. Turris owners rejoice and with any luck he may be in Phoenix next fall. Devon Setoguchi scored 2 third period goals, while playing on a line with Thornton and Michalek. He played [...]

With the 2007-08 fantasy hockey season underway, I decided to focus two columns (players in the Eastern Conference and players in the Western Conference).

As dobberhockey readers, many of you already know a great deal about point potentials of various players, but for those of you in leagues that include non-standard scoring categories, these columns are right up your alley.

In this second column, let's take a look at some of the guys in the western conference.

So you’ve been told not to panic (probably by me) about some big-name goaltenders that started off the season in a funk. But now it’s almost a month into the season and a handful of the elite goalies are making even the most confident fantasy hockey managers start to squirm.
