While I was able to pop into the draft chat for a bit last Friday, I’ll be busy playing some old-time road hockey and quaffing cold bottles of beer during the Free-Agent chat…thus, I will have to leave the July 1 chat to more serious (and likely better informed) hockey fans.

But I didn’t want to completely ignore my duties, so I humbly present the 2010 NHL Free-Agency Day Drinking Game.  It might be a relatively sparse year for free-agents, but that doesn’t mean the day can’t be fun!

First of all thanks to all the ones who showed up during the NHL Draft live chat powered by DobberHockey, it was truly a great experience.

But what to say about the draft? Well, the first round went very well, from a Russian point of view, with three players drafted, Alexander Burmistrov (Atlanta Thrashers), Vladimir Tarasenko (St. Louis Blues) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (Washington Capitals).

Versteeg has been traded to the Leafs! Analysis coming.   Submissions for DobberHockey's 2010 Free Agent Frenzy Contest are due this evening at midnight EST. Check out the details here - first prize is an autographed Scott Niedermayer photograph! More Bobby Mac - Dan Ellis will probably test free agency. I think he's looking [...]

Angus again with more Hamhuis-to-Vancouver stuff to chew on. According to Pierre Lebrun, Hamhuis would like to return to Canada to play (all things being equal, which means he still needs his money). Edmonton is probably not an ideal destination right now - Calgary is in cap hell, and both Toronto and Montreal have [...]

Scouting Henrik Karlsson

Karlsson

Hidden amidst the madness that was the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, a subtle trade took place that could have major implications on next season's fantasy goalie scene. The Calgary Flames quietly acquired Färjestad's Henrik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks for a sixth-round draft pick. Although he has no experience in North America, fantasy managers could really benefit from owning Karlsson, who just might be Miikka Kiprusoff’s newest backup.

A few goalie tidbits. Kevin Lalande and Dan LaCosta were passed over for QO's, so it looks like Gustaf Wesslau might be the full-blown starter in Springfield. It also looks like Matt Climie hasn't received his one-way wish yet. That makes Brent Krahn a prospect to watch, as he might just be Kari Lehtonen's new backup. The Stars like him, but nagging injuries, including a concussion, are somewhat of [...]

Jarnkrok

Not a lot of impactful events happened in the 2010 version of the NHL Entry Draft. Then again, it’s the little things that make a difference and there sure was a lot of tweaking, not to mention the draft picks themselves. Here are some of my initial thoughts…
