I have been trying to acquire Ovechkin in my keeper league and was contumplating this offer:

Eric Staal, Kipper, O'Sullivan, Goligoski

for

Ovechkin, Gerber, Bertuzzi

Was I crazy to offer that much to basically acquire Ovechkin. I pulled the offer thinking I was giving up to much. Am I right or crazy?

Make the offer, you're not giving up enough and I don't think it would get accepted.

I sent an offer for (my) Malkin for Green, Turris, Filatov, O'Sullivan, and Hemsky. It got turned down but it was a close offer.

I ended up getting Spezza, Hemsky, Turris, Burns, Hornqvist, and a 2nd rounder for Malkin, Campbell, JJ.

Maybe that will give you some type of range to go by.

Ovechkin is better than Malkin. Hope this wasn't too confusing.

Hm, good luck with that one Loose Moose, even with giving up that much just for Ovechkin I would not trade him. If you have said Staal and Kovalchuk, I might be more tempted, but then that might be a bit too rich. Gotta give up the greats to get the best!

If I had Ovechkin and I was trading with you, I'd probably need something along the lines of this:

Staal, Kovalchuk, Kipper, Voracek

for

AO

Looks like you all think Ovechkin is really worth the world. I just can't see myself moving all that tallent just to get one 115 point player. having a 115 point guy is nice but no one wins the pool with just one player. The guy that had Crosby in our pool finished last last year. Is it really worth having an Ovechkin or Crosby type player if your team is always going to be bottom of the barrel?

I don't think people that have the big 3 are consistently finishing last.

They are heads and shoulders above any other player in terms of value. To get them, you have to overpay. The points they get aren't the value put on them. Their value is higher because they are so much better than most.

Since you say you are rebuilding this might be an ok deal, but I do worry about your goaltending situation now. Gerber is not long for being productive in the league and Leclaire's injury problems combined with Mason's slow rise to being an NHL starter would seem to indicate that you are going to have some goalie problems fairly soon.

Also, by looking at your defense depth, you're going to need guys like Goligoski to pan out for you, or be able to pull off some deals for some solid defence soon.

I do think you made the right decision to not do the deal.
