Dynasty league with salary cap. Points are usual...goals, assists, PIM's etc. Fillpulla makes 3m/year Kessel makes .85m this year
even deal? Should someone be asking for more?
How about 3 years from now?

hmm.. i actually think this is pretty close. the argument will be that kessel's upside is higher, but i'm not sure we'll see it really soon. i think filppula will outpoint him this year.

Kessel side wins for me...
Flip will have better peripheral stats and is a much better two-way player on a better team, but when Kessel pops he'll pop much higher. 3 years from now Kessel is way ahead.

Keep in mind that Kessel won't sign as cheap as Flips once his entry deal is up. I'd guess he gets a Perry-type deal.
If you're pushing for this year Flips is your guy (UW is right) but Kessel is starting to get consistent and will be the better pick as soon as next year.
In your shoes I'd go with Phil.

Kessel by a nose. Filppula has a chance to break-out as a top 6 player next season and beyond; Kessel is still a 2nd/3rd line winger on a young, deep bruins squad.
I keep Kessel mainly due to the salary cap, but Filppula is in a great position to outscore him over the next 5 years.

Definitely Kessel side. Not only is he cheaper, but he has a higher upside and I think they will be within 10 points of each other for the coming season.
Kessel has 80+ potential while I never see Filppula getting above 65.

Filppula has come along nicely and risen successfully through the levels. Detroit brings their guys along patiently. Check out Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, Hudler. So, it's quite reasonable to wonder if Filppula is the next in line to 'graduate' to top six status.
Still, I have to select Kessel and his potential. He's a little younger and they had an equal amount of goals last year. There is a chance that we're overly enthusiastic about the 5th overall selection from 2006!
