What type of player is he? Who can you compare him to and what is his upside? Is he blue chip material?
I heard he was raised in the U.S. so he has a North-American mentality along with a Russian-type skill set.

Any insights are appreciated!

Bass - I guess you want to know about the grandson not the grandad.

I am sure you will be happy to know that I just read a whole bunch of stuff on him not that long ago and I can't remember a damn thing I read.

NHL Central Scouting Report:

Viktor Tikhonov was one of the most improved young players in the Russian League in 2007-08. He shows a high level of competitiveness and is a dedicated team player. He shows a keen ability to read and react to the play and is projected to be a second line player in the NHL. He needs to continue to improve his overall skating and speed.

Looks like a project.

I think people overrate him. Tikhonov doesn't have the great offensive upside people talk about it. I think he's going to be a great player but more valuable in real life. He brings other things to the game like defense and is responsible. Great awareness.

I'm not really good at comparisons to other players, but I will take a stab at his upside and say 25 goals and 45 assists.

I'm guessing 60-70 pts per season would be a reasonable expectation, and Phoenix is a nice spot for him.

I think Buggs had his upside listed at 20-55-75, if I remember correctly, and compared him to Datysuk. I may have been drinking heavily at the time, though

He has upside.. But thats way to high for me unless he is the LW for Turris and Mueller in the future..

I feel he has the skill to score 20 goals in the nhl.. But i'm not sold on his vision to get 50 plus assists.. thats just me..

Oh, I tend to agree with you. But upside has to take into account a perfect scenario. You don't want to come "under" when judging upside.

Now, what do I reasonably expect season-to-season? I'm thinking he can be a standard 20-40-60 guy. Maybe 20-35-55, but I still maintain his upside is 70-75 points.

All that said, I'm not an NHL scout, so you can take it with a grain of salt
