I'm interested in this post. In a keeper league where PIM don't count but +/- does, I'd appreciate people ranking who they'd most like to have out of the following d-men, mainly for this season and next rather than long term:

Hillen
Salcido
Hutchinson
Vishnevskiy
Harrold
Lepisto

you have to be careful with college dmen. on the one hand, it can be a source of a lot of good, late-blooming guys who are intelligent and chose not to go the junior route.

on the other hand, some of those big ice surfaces make it pretty easy for a puck-moving dman to succeed. BIG transition to the pros. BIG.

in order, for next two years:

harrold
hutchinson
salcido
hillen
lepisto
vishnevsky

thanks for drawing my attention to hutchinson... this guy has the classic statline for a late bloomer, showing constant improvement. tampa is a wide open situation if carle doesn't immediately make a difference

40 points for isles farm team in b'port would be a nice first step for Hillen .I doubt he cracks the isles this year but he may be one of the first call-ups when the injury bug hits .

He's got a shot in camp. They have to field a 23 man roster, so they'll need to decide whether to go with 14 fs or 8ds. So his competition is not really Ds (except perhaps Skinner) but the other kids on f - Bergenheim, Tambellini, Nielsen, Bentivoglio, Colliton, Iggulden. There's 3 forward roster spots (among the 13 f spots) for these 6 to compete for, and Tambellini and Nielsen are on one-way contracts (Bergenheim may also be, and should have the inside track anyway). So I reckon Hillen will compete with Bentivoglio, Colliton and Iggulden for the 23rd roster spot. If he gets in, however, I'd expect Freddy Meyer to get scratched before Hillen does.

And even if he is the first injury call up, with Gervais around that won't take long.
