I don't think there is any question about his offensive talent, I just don't think there is really room in the NHL for players with the kind of defensive ineptitude that Schremp was supposed to have. That said, I read that he has started paying a bit more attention to his obligations, but it is still a matter of having a liability on the ice.

As for the comparison to how Spezza was brought in, it's a reasonable point, but I think Schremp is even more of an extreme case. By the time Spezza was at the point Schremp is at now career wise, he had already played 111 games to Schremp's 3.

With pleasure. If anyone has any Edmonton questions I would be happy to oblige. The second part? I'll try my best (key word being try).

Bow, you broke it down well, not sure there is room for him in Edmonton in the new NHL.

There are only so many top 6 spots on every tem, there are 20 or 30 guys just like him, good skills, but missing something, not the complete package type of guys.

He could score 70 points in the NHL but probably will just remain a fantasy teaser, I would not be surprised if he never cracks 100 games in the show

wow UW, I seek this post out because I want to see what's being said about Schremp and i learn that not only do you have 'sensibilities' *shudder* but that they are flaming

I'm at a loss for words...

I believe this is the last year of his contract with the Oil, think that plays into this in any way?

last year of his contract, mcgoo? good observation, i hadn't realized that.

i suppose then that this is the year we'll finally see some worth news about schremp. either he gets traded, given some NHL action and resigned, or given some NHL action and traded. or, i suppose, released into free agency. whatever happens, we'll have a better idea of what to expect from him going forward.

i think he'll be traded.

I just wrote a long reply about Robbie, but it got deleted so I will summarize...

Schremp can it into camp hurt last year and was past by Gagner, Cogs, and Nilson. If he was healthly who knows...

Robbie went on to have an allstar year in the AHL.

This summer he has been training as hard as anyone with Horcoff and Moreau down in California.

I think he will surprise people this year. I think at worst he will have a year like Ted Purcell...Light it up in the AHL and have 0.5 pts/game with about 12 min/game ice in the NHL.

He is in the last year of his rookie deal and will be an RFA next year. I think the Oilers will keep him and trade some other top 9 forward to make room for him, as he has earned it.

If not here, I do believe he will play and play well for another team.

Schremp still has loads of potential and people forget that he has had some injury problems right in the middle of his growth as a player. The guy played quite well in the AHL last year and has time to still be a solid NHLer.

I agree that Edmonton might not be the place that it happens, but I still wouldn't be completely shocked to see him play well and steal a spot somewhere on the roster.

What irritates me is people that say "Oh he's just a shootout guy" or "He's a horrible defensive liability that can't skate." Usually they havn't watched him actually play and base it on reports from other people who have also not seen him play.

Could he still end up being a bust? For sure. But it's not like the guy is 25 years old and a lifetime AHLer.

This is a bit of an aside but I do feel moved to say something about the quality of this thread. It's frigging awesome. You sure aren't finding this kind of analysis about a wanna be NHLer in any mag you pick up off the news stand. I'm impressed.

doulos, the knock i've heard on him is he's all agility and can't skate, we've seen his lacrosse skills i dont think anyone questions that he'd be an asset handling the puck in the offensive zone but the new NHL means you hafta skate and hustle to both sides of the puck and I dont see that in his game, i could see him being a PP specialist much more than a top line guy...

plus hes a show boater, that never goes over well
