A manager in my league is shopping him around since he has great depth in goal...what do you guys think his value trade-wise and what kind of number do you see this year and in the future?

I haven't watched much of him but what I have didn't leave me very impressed...of course he was on a shite Kings team and had some injuries so its unclear if he's had a proper chance.

I've heard him compared to Kolzig. Big in the net, a dependable starter but not necessarily a game changer. What do you guys think?

Unless he gets traded i see no real valuee in him. He had his chance last year and did ok but they want Bernier to be their guy, and Ersberg last year looked muchmore confident than Barbie did. He wouldnt be a bad third option but I wouldnt count on him as one of your 2 goalies.

LaBarbera has great size in net but he is not efficient whatsoever in spaces directly around his net. He is so awkward and he lets in a TON of really bad-angle shots or shots that originate from behind the net. If you were to see a map of all the goals that LaBarbera has allowed, you would see a direct correlation of the percentage of goals allowed from the area directly in front of him, off to his sides and ESPECIALLY behind him.

Unfortunately this aspect of his game is inbred and is also connected to his overall frame and body style. I would say that Kolzig is a game changer and LaBarbera is an accident waiting to happen. Also as long as he is playing in Los Angeles, he will never truly get the opportunity he deserves. Now with different coaching it might be different, but I would not touch LaBarbera with a ten foot pole.

I saw Ersberg play most of his games down the stretch and I was highly impressed. His cup-of-coffee in the nhl means that Laberbera will be given a very short leash in the fall, and will likely end up in a short-term platoon (2 years or less) until Bernier is ready to go. Zatkoff is also in the system, and he projects to be a very solid backup, potentially 1B starter.

I wouldn't trade for Labarbera. His brief stint is near an end.

thx for the feedback guys, I didn't have a really great feel for him but you've mostly confirmed my suspicions that he was much ado about nothing. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something but it looks like he'll be waiver wire fodder soon enough
