If the rumors are true and Meszaros ends up signing with Tampa Bay, Vancouver or another team, what would this do to his fantasy value? Higher, lower, or the same?

I don't think his value would change if you are in a points-only league. I personally am not sold on the idea that with Redden gone he is going to explode in Ottawa. He would be a decent number 3 guy on most fantasy teams but I just don't see him as a top-10 defenceman.

However, he could have plus-minus adjustment depending on where he ends up.

Depends on a lot of things.

- salary - if you're in a salary cap league using real salaries, chances are the bottom just fell out. He's not worth $5.0M of cap space
- the situation he goes to affects things a whole bunch (or perception a whole bunch) People don't like Bouwmeester in Florida. Not enough easy assists to propel him to the higher level. They think he'd be great in some other environments. Same will be true for Meszaros. When he arrives in Columbus, everyone will figure he just became their 1st guy out the door on the powerplay. When he goes to Detroit everyone will say that stinks, he's behind Lidstrom, Rafalski & Kronwall. That Meech kids shoots a puck 100 mph. Why'd he do that?

Yes his fantasy value is higher, lower or the same.

(I hope it's Washington and they're working on their collection of Russians!)

I am also of the opinion that he likely won't increase his production much over what has been projected in Ottawa regardless of where he signs. If you have an opportunity to get him - treat him as a 40 point D guy.

Agreed.

Before the trade, I liked Picard to be their Meszaros, a talented two-way D-man. Now, he makes Carle their Redden.

Still, +/- is dangerous on this team. For Meszaros, see who he's paired with...

Try to figure out Meszaros' pt production w/o Redden in the lineup. Over the past 3 yrs, I believe it may be at the 50 pt range over a full year. He should play on the 1st PP unit in Tampa. I'm not crazy about the forwards they have playing the point. That was Richards' forte wasnt it?
