So Lehtonen's place in the rankings, while arguable in the eyes of some people, is not ridiculous. That's what this whole rigmarole boils down to.  |

ranked 14th is not ridiculous but not in my eyes I wouldn't draft him anywhere in the top 20. All boils down to difference in opinion.

I know people who think Biron is 10 NHL games away from losing his starter spot. People who think Toskala is a terrible goalie(mostly leafs fans, really).
Really, things come down to opinion. Lehtonen has all the skills, but is surrounded by junk, and is often hampered by injuries.
I like his skills as much as Vokoun's, but both of those guys have injury issues and play on rough teams. Biron has neither of those issues, and is fairly close in skill level, and will produce equal stat numbers and better wins.

Not in the top 20 has to be a personal hate. He's a 24-year-old coming off a .916 SP on a team that wants him to play all 82 games and if he was consistent and healthy he would play all 82. I count on one hand the goalies in that situation.

Same goes for Lehtonen in this case (injury and horrible team).

I stay away from Gaborik for that reason...but if I can get him for the price of an 85-point player I'd be happy to take him and then flip him for more. For that reason alone, Gabby is high on the rankings.
Same deal with Lehtonen, I can trade him for a LOT 10 games in when he's off to a hot start.

I think the Lehtonen - Gaborik comparison is a bit misleading. Gaborik is often injured, but he plays enough to give you decent numbers. Even if Gabby plays in only 65 games, he will get 80 points.
I prefer to compare Lehtonen to Havlat. When he plays, he is pretty amazing, but he just never plays.

The best thing that could happen to Lehtonen would be for someone to offer him an offer sheet and go to a better team but that's not going to happen. I own him in one of my leauges and will hang on to him even if he plays for a poor Atlanta team. He may have injury issues and play for team that is probably a top 5 draft pick in 2009 but he has a ton of talent, isn't even close to reaching his prime and 4-5 years from now could be one of the best fantasy goalies out there.
