thanx for the article, I only wish I had read it today before my draft -lol. I'm alot like you, I always try to have a strong top-3 D, any time I've gone against that in a league it hasn't worked out well. I still think I did pretty well though, everyone feel free to chime in pro or con.

To set it up, this is the 2nd year of the league and I inherited this team (see sig for full details) So this year's draft was a matter of every manager cutting his 23 man roster to 17 then going thru a 6 round pro-draft (prospect draft was afterwards). The team I inherited had a pretty lame D and no farm team at all (prev manager didn't draft one!) so those were my 2 areas to address.

here's what I started out with on D:

Beauchemin
Martin
Corvo
Tallinder
Huskins
Volchenkov

and my current roster is in the sig so you can see who I added on D and thru the farm

Wow, not a great set of D to start out with. Adding Sekera, Oduya, Campoli and Lashoff was excellent. I'm not big on Lashoff's potential, but I'm a big fan of the other three guys.

I've become a little more of a Martin fan than I was before last season. Corvo is in a very good situation. Campoli is going to look good this year on the Island.

Sekera is a great prospect to have - his future is bright. Oduya is an interesting guy to own in leagues that count PiM and +/-.

Cutting loose Beauchemin, Tallinder, Huskins and Volchenkov won't hurt you at all. I actually like your farm team, especially Kulemin and Pietrangelo.

All in all, a pretty nice job of drafting. It may take a little time, but I think you have the right ideas to win this type of pool.

Corvo will be a Top 7 or 8 rearguard in scoring this year. Maybe even Top 5.
Under the radar!

I like a strong D too. I pulled some trades and picked up some that I will keep this year. We get to keep 6 players and I will be keeping Mike Green, Brent Burns and Dan Boyle. So going into our draft I will have a pretty solid corps to start and anyone I add will be gravy.

Nice keepers Sin Bin!

I really think having a strong D core has been one of my keys to success. Funny how not too many others appreciate that.

In one of my roto leagues (15 teams, keep 8 players + 2 rookies), I've got Gonchar, Pronger, Green, Streit, Visnovsky, Stralman and JJ.

I will try to trade Streit and Visnovsky before the draft for picks. I just can't part with Gonchar, Pronger or Green.
