Dobber - regardless if he was hurt or not - you can't allow people to take a two handed baseball bat swing to someone's chest, or anywhere...you don't wait until someone gets hurt to suspend a person as a deterrent.

I agree he most likely didn't feel it, but that doesn't place it within the code of conduct.

This is how I felt exactly when I read the ramblings this morning. I am sorry to disagree with you Dobber, but I have to agree with repent by saying, you can't just go around and start slashing people in the chest or around the head.

Sure Osgood stuck out his arm or the end of his stick and that happens every game. Every goalie does that in every game, you see it all the time. But for Ribeiro to swing his stick like he did, at his chest or head, who knows what he really intended to do, is selfish and unexceptable. And for Osgood to fall like he did, well why wouldn't he?? Even if it didn't hurt it is playoff hockey, you do what you can to win. And if this helps Colin Campbell's decision at all then it will help in a big way. Even if Osgood hadn't have flopped around like a piece of bacon that had been cooking in the pan for 5 minutes, Riberio still needs to face the consequences. Clearly an intent to injure.. How couldn't it be? Was he just giving him a love tap? A warning? It was clearly a two-handed chop. What would have happened if he got him in the neck? Then would it be a suspension?

Even though the Stars are down 2-0 in the series he could have almost forsurely cost them the series now. If you don't think Detroit is going to use this as motivation, you are crazy. Riberio was selfish in Montreal and he is still that player in Dallas, he has a great 2 seasons because finally somebody gave him a chance without bashing him everytime the final horn blows in the media, but he is still has that same selfish attitude he has always had.

Two games would be appropriate. Make his final game back be game 5 in Detroit if Dallas squeeks one out in Dallas this week..

I think we can all agree that the slash by Riberio was inappropriate, the issue is Osgood's reaction. For this I side with Dobber, not saying Osgood has to shake Riberio's hand then calmly skate off the ice, but don't embarrass yourself by that pathetic dive. Either skate away and let your team take care of it or go after him yourself. Osgood looked like a complete idiot.

Hey - I agree with you guys, I'm just more disgusted with Osgood. This isn't soccer and he's ruining my game. Ribeiro gave him a love tap in a place where he knew there would be lots of padding. Ribeiro MAYBE should have gotten one game...and Osgood's ridiculous behavior should automatically erase that one game. He patted Osgood on the chest pad the way a teammate would pat you on the ass or the shin pad with your stick.

Sorry guys - I'm so appalled by how Ozzie went down...and I was just as appalled seeing it live...that I can't get past it.

I knew this would create discussion though. haha

Like I wrote in the other Osgood thread: Apparently Ribs got a match penalty handed to him by the refs and that penalty comes with an automatic indefinite suspension, so it seems he will get at least one game. When has the league ever overturned a match penalty suspension before?

I totally agree that Osgood looked like a fool rolling around especially when you see the slow-motion replay of the chop.Osgood may have lost the respect of most hockey fans out there but if you get chopped like that and in the heat of battle, you are not really thinking clearly. And if this worked to help in the decision of getting one of Dallas' better players of the ice for a game or two well it was well worth it..

Riberio needs to be held accountable for the use of his own stick, I think two games would be appropriate..

All will be erased when Detroit is skating around with the cup and Osgood horse collars Hasek and takes the cup from him..

I find it pretty ironic considering this.

Osgood wanted the refs to notice that the chop happened and it worked. It's nothing compared to some of the epic dives Turco has pulled over the years.

Good clip Cortez - thanks for that - and welcome! Ribeiro is an embarrassment and I had lots to say about that one three years ago (ask the 50 or so readers I had at the time haha...man, we've come along!). But the flavor of the day is Osgood. Ribs lost my respect years ago, Osgood lost it last night.

If players didn't do that all the time then I'd understand, but it does happen every game so it's pretty easy to get over.

Ribiero doesn't get off clean, but I don't even think he deserves a suspension for that. You call it a two handed slash, but is he gong to take one hand off his stick in order to do it? I wouldn't go further than calling it a 2 minute slashing penalty, or maybe more because it was after the game, but it was basically harmless, not even a dirty play.

Hasek is probably the biggest diver in todays NHL, but I apologize to Detroit fans in saying this must be contageous. Whether you like Ribiero or not, or whether youre on Osgood fan, I think you have to agree that barring razor needles protruding from Ribieros blade, the only reason Osgood knew to go down was because he saw the blade hit him, not because he felt it.

Edit: upon further review of the video, Osgood delivers Ribero a butt-end to the face area as he skates by to the back of the net. I don't think anyone will argue a slash is dirtier than a butt-end, but coupled with the dive, Osgood will temporarily take place as my most hated player.
