First trade of the fantasy off-season.
Here is my roster for the big picture (ROTO league, normal stats)
Ribeiro Getzlaf
Parise Brunette
Perry Sharp
Byfuglien Burns Timonen
Bench: H. Sedin Malone Holmstrom Coburn Ranger
Prospects (note worthy): Raymond Sekera Stralman Eriksson Caputi Oshie
Goal: Nabokov Leclaire
Anyway, it is a salary cap league, and with Perry/Getzlaf getting raises, I am getting pretty close up against the cap.
I'm set in net with two guys who I am confident with. I think Eriksson is ready for a full time role next season as well.
The deal was my:
Kimo Timonen Ryan Malone TJ Oshie
for:
Ryan Whitney Claude Giroux Peter Mueller

Wow this is definitely a good trade for you Angus. Whitney should be back to the 50-60 pts next year and I like Mueller a lot. Giroux is doing pretty in the Q-league playoffs and should have his chance next year in PHI.

Great deal for you Angus..... I would be worried about posting and making the other GM look like an idiot. I am hesitant to post my team so other members of my league,(who I still hope do not know about this site), do not recognize my team and opinions.
So.... Even if Timonen is a better d-man, it will be extremely hard to outscore Whitney even if he is on the #2 PP.
Malone might outscore Mueller next year IF he remains on Malkins wing, but he is nowhere near the potential of Mueller from a pure talent perspective and he is an UFA. IF Malkin hits 140, Malone might get 35G and 45A just being on the line but that should be Muellers upside in about 2 years in PHX.
Finally, I ma a fan of Oshie, who should break in nicely next year with decent ice time BUT, he has never been rated as high as Giroux and will not have comparable talent to play with for years.
Why would the other GM do the trade with you? Did he ride the short bus in school? Where do you find these people to throw money in the pools you join?
If this wasn't you Angus, I would honestly fear that you posted this "trade" just to look good on this site. YES it is that bad.

I know the other GM reads these boards. Unlike you selfish guys, I told everyone in my league about the site. It was tough to give up Timonen (even with his salary), just because he is a steady 50 points guaranteed. I didn't mean to show this off. I rarely make trades in fantasy hockey (probably only two or three since January across four leagues). I also made an awful trade earlier this year in another league: Getzlaf for Harding and Horcoff. I was damn desperate for goaltending but Harding tanked it big time this season.

Selfish, perhaps.....
but my victory this year helps me sleep at night.
I had no intent to insult you, I just really can not see the upside for the other GM.

This is a crazy deal. One team gets a solid high scoring Dman, a future franchise Center who'll pot around a point per game after a few seasons, and a plug LW who can rack up all forward categories in the right situation.
The other gets a Pittsburgh dman who had an off year, a RW prospect with high high offensive potential, and a franchise center who will score a point per game in a few(less) seasons.
I give Angus the advantage here because it's a major salary cut, and he doesn't lose much "right now" offense. Whitney should rebound nicely, as he's still quite young and has't hit his fourth year yet(though dmen tend to break out 2-4 years after forwards do). Giroux COULD have a great rookie year, but Philly is a tad congested on the RW. Mueller will be gold in Phoenix. Gold.
If Malone moves teams, I don't see him putting up a hell of a lot of points(in roto at least). This is a sell-high season for him. Oshie WILL make the team, whether he deserves it or not. Of course, he's a hard working dude, so I assume he'll make it in his own right, but management there love him to death. He'll be given every opportunity to succeed, like how Toews and Kane were, so they can reel St. Louisians into the hockey realm again. Timonen should have another solid season, but he's just reaching his prime now. In a few years who knows. I hope for his sake he's still great, but stranger turns have been taken.
I'm assuming the other dude's poises to have a very competitive season, and has a bunch of spare salary, so it's not very unbalanced if you're looking at it contextually.

I don't think this trade is as onesided as people think. It's a great deal in addressing what both teams are looking for.
Mueller is the best player in this deal. Getting some cap room in dumping Timmonen is beneficial, but you are getting rid of a sure thing and taking on a bit of a risk in Whitney (risk = reward though)... who knows where he'll be next year (production wise). Oshie is going to have more of an impact immediately, compared to Giroux because of the F depth in Philly will slow him down and find him playing a few years in the AHL possibly.
