To explain - I'm a sucker for nostalgia. That's why I initially picked the Habs to win the Cup (rookie goalie, once per decade, etc etc) So, because I am so fond of comparing the Oilers of the 80s to the Pens of today...if you recall, the young, high-flying Oilers dominated the NHL in 83 and breezed to the Final where they played the legendary Islanders. They got hammered four straight. The next season, it was a rematch. And Edmonton, taking the lessons of the year prior, won the Cup. I see PIT learning lessons this year, and then winning it all next year. Just to explain my controversial pick!  |

Detroit in 5 IMO. Normally when media types predict a classic we get a blowout...so that's what we'll get. IMO the defining difference between the two teams. Lidstrom/Gonchar...one plays D...the other doesn't.  |

My pick is Detroit in 6 but I want Pit to win... hopefully games 3 & 4 so i can party up in steeltown.
It comes down to D and Pit has all defensive D and will be no match for Det offense.

I love it, No D in Gonchar! That's what Hal Gill is for. I'm sticking with my Pittsburgh pick because I took them at the beginning of the playoffs. Yes I'm starting to believe all the hype regarding Detroit, but the contrarian in me says screw that, it's nothing more than media angles. The young bucks are going to come out victorious this time and help keep me perfect in my Stanley Cup finals predictions. Last year I predicted Anaheim in 5  Crosby will kick it up a notch and take home the Conn Smythe. I love it when a plan comes together!  |
