im sorry but considering your edmonton I really dont like your picks. iggy fine you want to take a skater thats good but to take gonchar 2nd round was dumb. your goalies now are garon and smith, 2 subpar goalies. You have no tier 1 goalies and you took an old defencemen in gonchar ahead of a guy like eric staal and a young defencemen like mike green.

Erm...

The draft list posted wasn't the league the OP is referring to. That team isn't his, and they have yet to draft AFAIK.

I'm looking at your scoring cats and I'm seeing about 40% of them are goalie stats. I dont see how you dont take a goalie with your first pick. You only dress 1 goalie, but they account for 40% of your scoring cats. Take my advice, draft the best goalie available at #12.

There will be no stud goalies left in the 2nd round... I think that is a pipe dream. You should be able to get a second tier goalie in the 2nd round tho, but you want a STUD!

These are the players that are guaranteed to be drafted under your scoring cats:
Luongo, AO, Crosby, Malkin, Nabokov, Price, Lundqvist, Heatley, Iggy. That makes 10. After that it gets harder to predict.

I think if Fleury is available at #12, I would take him. He may slip due to a bad year. He shouldn't tho.

With my second pick I would definitely take the best forward available. #21 is harder to predict as you can never tell how people are going to react to the players getting snatched up. It sometimes really screws with the strategy you spent weeks sorting out! hahaha Be ready to change your mind about what direction you wanted to go.

I think the direction you should plan and attempt to follow is 1 pick goalie, 2nd pick, best goal scoring forward with good shots and PIMs.

Hope that helps your decision making process.

cheers,

AW

All 3 years my Goalies have not been tier 1 Goalies.
I've always felt like there was always a Goalie out there availible that would get you close enough to stay in it. Thomas-Backstrum-DiPietro-Vokoun have helped me stay strong throughout the years.
I like players 1st, then Goalies. Thats MY strategy anyway..
Theres always a GOOD 70-80pt goalie around(Garon-Huet-Gerber etc)
I find more longevity with players than a Goalie..

look at your goalie stats that you use... (2)

Look at his goalie stats that he uses (6)

I think goalies will be playing a bigger part then you think and you shouldn't compare leagues and rules etc are always different.

I don't think you'll really have a "stud" forward available at 12... very good, but the very top-end talent will be gone by then. For that reason, I would select Price with your 1st pick. He should still be there. Then, you could get a guy like Getzlaf or Backstrom with your second pick. Difference between a guy like Iginla/Staal and Getzlaf/Backstrom is too miniscule to pass up a franchise goalie like Price.

Quite correct. Not only that, but if you toss out SHP and GWG, the goalie categories are overwhelming.

I would hope a Tier 1 tender is available at 12 and shoot for 3 solid tenders in 10 rounds.

While everyone focuses on the big shooters, I'd look for tending, assists and pims.

You can't really go wrong with either of those tenders, as they both have their best years ahead of them.

Of those goalies, I would take Fleury. Price might have another year or two of a semi-shared starting job, while Fleury - having now gone to the finals - has been handed the reins in full by the Pens as they let Conks walk.

No doubt, Price is the long-term guy in Montreal. In spite of how he's worshiped around these parts, I'm not convinced the Habs will throw him to the wolves this year. They've been very careful about not jarring his confidence while he's this young, and I still wouldn't be shocked to see him in the backup seat for multiple-game stretches.

In your pool, there is emphasis on getting more action between the pipes: saves, wins, shutouts will only go up with more action. I think in the averaged categories (GAA/SV%) the two are as good as a wash.

Fleury may seem a bit of an injury risk, but I'd still rather have the guy who is certain to be shouldering more of the load.

Oh, and if both those Cs are still there at your next pick take Getzlaf. I know it's a points league, but the fact he contributes across the board is still going to help you. Backstrom, useful though he may be, will not help much in cats like goals/shots/PIMs.

I guess the bottom line is Backstrom's stats are more replaceable than Getzlaf's.
