12 team keeper league, we can (but do not have to) keep 6 forwards, 4 defence, and 2 goalies. Points only. Salaries increase by $0.25 each year. $20.00 salary cap. Maximum 20 players on your roster. Auction draft.
Here are my potential keepers:
For: Crosby 4.00 Malkin 1.00 Spezza 1.75 Backstrom .75 Hemsky .75 Vanek 1.50
dropping?:
Briere 2.25 Tavares .75
Def: Whitney 1.25 E Johnson 1.50 Meszaros .75 Coburn 1.25
dropping?:
Carle 1.25 Murphy .50
Goal: Fleury 1.25
dropping?:
Lehtonen 1.50
I am pretty sure who I am keeping but can still trade until Sept 1st, then our rosters are set until draft day. I have a few potential trades I am thinking about and I'm not sure if I should go ahead with or not?
Trade 1: My Meszaros.75 Hemsky .75
for
Miller 1.75(If I dont trade for Miller I will probably end up with a goalie from this list for my second goalie) Leclaire1.00, Thomas1.00, Garon1.00, Lehtonen1.25, Legacy.50
Trade 2: My Briere 2.25 Vanek 1.50
for Hossa 1.75

If you're dropping Briere, then upgrading to Hossa for .25 is probably a good plan. $2.00 is a lot in your pool.
That goalie situation is enough to make a guy squirm though. Jeez. $1.75 for Miller is a lot. You don't want to count on one of the other goalies though as a starter. Sure as a backup. Hemsky is an awesome piece of material in your pool, making this trade difficult. Johnson & Whitney are plenty pricy on your blueline. It'd suck to drop Tavares too, but he had a bad year... can't use him... If there was some other way to bring in a second tier tender it might sure look a little better. Perhaps one that wasn't as pricy as Miller. About next year you'll be wanting to dump Miller as he's making too much money.
You look like you have a pretty good feel for your pool. I think you can trust yourself!

I dont like either trade...here's why. Trade 1 You lose some of your best bang for buck players, and acquire Miller, who makes a decent chunk of change. Next year financially speaking you have the option of having Hemsky and Meszaros or Ryan Miller by himself. Both will cost you $2.00. With the depth Edmonton has been able to add, it seems like Hemsky might be able to reach his potential (or close to it). At $1.00, he will be a great asset and in high demand next season. Trade 2 Talent wise, it's probably a bit much to acquire Hossa, but the reason for it is because you are trying to consolidate and also get some value for Briere instead of dropping him. Vanek is going to be a sick winger though. I'm biased toward him, but I think he'll have a great year again 40+ goals and 80+ pts. By trading Vanek and getting Hossa back, you are increasing your salary also. In fact, in both of these trades, you'd be increasing your salary. Based on how well your team is set up and balanced, I dont think you need to spend as much to add someone like Hossa or Miller. Thats just my take, but what do I know?

Also, regarding trade 1 - although getting Miller would be nice, Garon or Leclaire are decent options, and you would be crazy to trade Hemmer at that salary. Cheers.
