Welcome to the NHL!

Hey everyone! This is my first blog, and I am excited to be able to share my thoughts about the season with all of you!

A little bit about myself: I am a forward/defenceman for the Chicago Blackhawks. I was born and raised in Chicago and really excited to be able to suit up for the home team! I was traded here in January of 2006 from the Carolina Hurricanes.

I am blogging to you from my hotel room in St. Paul, Minnesota, as we are getting ready to open up the regular season against the Wild. With all of our high draft picks and great off season moves, there is a lot of excitement not only in our dressing room, but the city of Chicago as well.

Being on the road as much as we are, I have fallen into a pretty good routine the day before games. We usually arrive into the visiting city the afternoon before the game. There is a lot of downtime, so it's important to keep yourself busy and focused on the game. I am a huge music fan, so a lot of my downtime is spent listening to music and downloading some new tunes for my iPod. One band I highly recommend you check out is Maximo Park. You won't be disappointed!

After relaxing for a few hours, I usually meet up with a couple of teammates to go grab some dinner. There is a great mix of nationalities and personalities on this team, and dinner time is always a good time to get to know each other. It's important to get to know one another off the ice, because the chemistry definitely translates on the ice.

With training camp out of the way, we are excited to start playing for real. This is going to be a great season for the Chicago Blackhawks, and I am excited to be able to share it with all of you. If you have any questions or suggestions, drop me a line and I will include it in my next blog.

Welcome to the Yard!

Welcome to the yard Danny I hope you guys have a great season. Who do you think the hardest goalie is to score on that you have played in your career? Good luck this season!

Great to have you Danny. Good luck with everything

Thanks a lot

Keep up the hard work buddy

Born and raised in Chi-town and yet you spell Defenceman w/ a "C"...now that's a french-canadian thing...welcome to the Yard Danny. Good luck this season!

haha I'm not sure if it's a french canadian thing... I think only going to college for one year might of had something to do with me mis-spelling the word

Welcome to the yard!

Welcome Danny. It's exciting to finally have an NHL athlete blog.

Welcome to the Yard Mr. Richmond. I speak on behalf of many people here when I say, "oh, hockey, wow!" I look forward to the blog. I hope you can help us hockey ignorants become better NHL fans.

Good to see you on here Danny.

Danny -

Good luck with your season. I'm looking forward to reading about your experiences.

Hey man
I don't know any blackhawks players yet. I know we got a some small rookie that is meant to be really good. I will be going to my first blackhawk game this season. I am glad you blogging, that will just make me want to even more. I will be like I know that GUY he is that cool blogger. I been to united center SOO many to watch my bulls, do you ever get chance to check out any bulls games ? Where do you live city, or relaxin the burbs. I don't need to street address lol, just see what kind of vibe you have. Good Luck with the season, I am excited to come watch my first nhl game, I have never heard anyone say a hockey game was boring. My bad for long Rant, But I just love my people from chicago no matter what sport they play. One last question what your favorite restaurant after a home game ?

Hey, I am actually going to the Bulls game tomorrow... my first one in a long time. Should be a good time. I live in the city and love it out here. I have been known to eat at Tavern on Rush quite a bit after home games.

Welcome Danny, and best of luck to you this season!

Just watch out for those bathrooms at the Minneapolis airport. I hear there are creepy Senators (the ones from Washington, not Ottawa) cruising the stalls...

haha what was that guy thinking?!?!? I made sure to avoid the bathrom in Minne.

Any Enrique Iglesias on that iPod?

hahaha I can't believe that is still following me. Did you go to Michigan? The article in question failed to mention the weekly letters my roomate, Jeff Tambellini, wrote to Enrique. I have sadly grown out of my Enrique phase and don't have any of his stuff on my iPod

Welcome to the yard! It's good to see a hockey influence on YB. I was starting to get way into the WNBA and I had no idea why.

Im not even going to touch this one... good to have you on board tho

Welcome! It's good to have a hockey player here in the yard. I am looking foward to your posts through the season, in all honesty, the only hockey game I ever saw on TV was during the last olympics.

I am a huge fan of the NHL and a fantasy hockey junkie to boot. This is an awesome inside look at the life of an NHLer. First, where are you from and second.... how is Marty Havlat doing after lasts nights mishap in Minny?
Paul

Danny I watched your father play in the AHL in New Haven Ct many years ago - can't believe he has a kid old enough to be in the NHL - I actually worked for the team he played with and he was always one of my favorites - I hope he is well and good luck with your hockey career.
Judy

I have a lot of great memories of living in New Haven. Too bad there isn't a team there anymore. It was cool seeing some Night Hawks jerseys when I played against Bridgeport. Thanks for reading!

Please give your dad my best I am certain he will remember me - there were fun times there

Welcome!
It's about time we have an actual player's perspective.
be sure to tell us your early impressionons of each building and the small things most might miss.
(ie: the steps to the dressing room at the old chicago stadium)
here's hoping you see some open ice...
thanks for coming to the yard!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be sure to incorperate that into my next blog.

Good luck, Danny! I for one didn't think you got a fair shot in Raleigh but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Hi Danny,
I am a friend of your mom and dad's. I have lost touch with your mom. We played softball together in esky and then had great fun in A2. I have pictures if you and your sister when you were babies. Please pass on my email to your mom. kmehomes@sbcglobal.net. I can't even imagine how proud your parents are you. Congrats on your success. Kay Rice Ellis

Richmond, hows it going, long time since I have talked to you. The last time I saw you, I got a facewash in Munn and MSU won 5-3. I just wanted you to know that I have been following your progress and will continue to do so. If you want, look me up on the MSU website and shoot me an email. I don't know your sentiments towards the hawks right now, but think that you will always support them. My rents have gone to a few games and saw you play in phoenix with my brother in 06. You got into a few fights that game. I hope this finds you well and your family well, and will talk with you later.
JR
