Top Defensemen

Written by Darryl Dobbs

This is simply pulling defensemen out of the regular 'Rankings' list and adding a few more at the bottom. Ratings are a reflection of a player's trade value in 'rollover' fantasy hockey pools. They reflect a players predicted points, historical points, injury risk, playoff value, powerplay time, and long-term potential.  Basically, if you are in a keeper league, this is my opinion based on my statistical model of a player's 'trade value'.  Naturally, individual trades would depend on the direction you are taking with your team at the present.

No one with a brain would move Boyle or Markov for Gonchar, Ralaksi or Lidstrom.

Wow. Kindl is really climbing this list. With Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall (not to mention Stuart and seemingly Ericsson) in his way, it seems like he might take a while to produce.

Guys that haven't played an NHL game should be off the list. How can they be top 100 D when they haven't played a game. They should be left to prospects. Where are Quincy, Hainsey, Hillen, and Bell? There young and exceeded a number of players on this list. Not sure why Lashoff is 96th. 7 in 12 games in TB? Harrold is a bust and Jones won't be a top fantasy player ever.

Is Tom Preissing gonna get another shot? The Kings are too deep with youth to play him, so I'm imagining he'll have to get dealt. I'm just wondering whether I should cut him this off-season (defense are hard to come by in our league).

Alex Edler isn't on the Top 100 Defensemen list? Interesting omission.
