Fantasy Impact: The Canucks have acquired Emerson Etem in exchange for Nicklas Jensen and a late draft pick.

The Canucks get: A speedy winger with a little bit of offensive skills but without the consistency to stick in the top six at this point in his career.

The Rangers get: A once hyped prospect who has not had much success as a pro and a sixth round draft choice.

Fantasy Players Impacted: Etem is now on his third team. If he is ever going to break through as even a depth scorer it has to be in Vancouver where the depth chart is barren. If everything breaks right for Etem he could have a year like Michael Grabner did for the Islanders when he parlayed big minutes on a bad team into a 30-goal season. That’s the dream scenario though so don’t expect that here.

Instead, look for more of the same from Etem, which means more fourth line minutes and fantasy irrelevance. Every winger seems to get a turn with the Sedin twins eventually, however, so keep an eye out for that.

More important is why the Rangers made this move. Clearly impressed with what they had seen from Jayson Megna the Rangers no longer had use for Etem. Megna, skating in the top six alongside Derek Stepan and Rick Nash has a chance to score at a 40-point pace the rest of the way, which has relevance in deep leagues.

As for Jensen, he will look to find his footing as a pro in the Rangers system after stagnating with Vancouver. In four pro seasons Jensen has scored just 65 points in 160 AHL contests, which doesn’t bode well for his chances of catching on at the NHL level.

Both Jensen and Etem are former first round picks (both taken 29^th overall in back-to-back drafts, actually) and are just 22 and 23 respectively. They still have time to make something of themselves but this deep into their pro careers you would have hoped for more by now.
