A look into the fantasy potential for sniper Jake DeBrusk …
In this edition of The Journey, we will look at one of the Boston Bruins three first-round draft picks in 2015, Jake DeBrusk, and discuss his fantast potential.
Heading into the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Jake DeBrusk was a player that was on everybody's radar as the 19th-ranked North American skater as determined by NHL Central Scouting. While he wasn't expected to go high in the round, he wasn't expected to fall out of the round either. Teams holding picks in the 20s and beyond had heavily scouted DeBrusk and for good reason – he had just finished a monster season in the Western Hockey League with the Swift Current Broncos.
In 2011, Swift Current selected DeBrusk in the seventh round (137th overall) of the WHL Bantam Draft. He had played in the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League and averaged just over a point per game. His skill set was clearly different than his father Louie, who recorded 1,161 penalty minutes through 401 NHL contests.
Dobber Prospect Rank: 136thoverall prospect in Dobber Hockey's Top 215
Fantasy Outlook: B-
Pros: pure goal scorer, skating, hockey sense, creativity
Cons: lacks physical edge, experience
Anticipated NHL Arrival: 2017-18 or beyond
Filthy shootout goal at Bruins Development Camp
