Top 100 Rotisserie Players – October 2015

Mike McMillan

2015-10-15

The NHL regular season is here and the October Top 100 Roto rankings are back to guide your team to a rotisserie league fantasy hockey championship.

Player values for the Top 100 Roto Rankings are generated by the guys at FantasyHockeyGeek.com and are weighted over multiple years to determine a player's production consistency. We use their per-game averages to account for player who have missed time in the past due to injury, this is then weighted against the DobberHockey player projections to boil down the evaluations into one single number and rank the top 100 players in fantasy hockey (forwards and defensemen only).

The categories included in the values are G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SOG, and Hits.

As we navigate through the NHL season the values will be adjusted to include current season production, weighted at a progressively increasing percentage. To add a predictive element, we take a look at which players are likely to regress back to career averages and which players are due for hot streak over the course of the season using PDO and shooting percentages.

Being only a few games into the season, we don’t have enough data from to use shooting percentage to predict a player's production yet. For the October edition of the Top 100 Roto Rankings we’ll look at what a player has typically shot in his career and analyze the difference every month moving forward. Over the course of an 82 game season, players will typically end up around their career average in shooting percentage so if Sidney Crosby is sitting at 3.0% shooting in November but his CSH% is 14.4, we know he’ll get a scoring boost in the coming weeks.

As a quick reminder, a PDO of 100 means that when a player is on the ice both goalies are letting in shots at the same rate. If your opponent's goalie is letting in shots at a much higher rate, that can be a mix of talent or luck but is usually at least somewhat lucky. Thus, a player with a PDO of below 100, he should have some lucky bounces coming his way in the future. However, we are looking at the top 100 players in the world, so their PDO will probably be a bit above 100, but not by much. A PDO in the below 95 is a great sign to buy low. For the October edition we’ll look at the career average as a starting point and the differential every month moving forward.

Here is the October Top 100 Roto…
