For some reason, my vid won't play on Firefox anymore. That never used to be a problem, we are looking into it. For now, it can be played on IE just fine. Update: apparently it works for some people on FF.
Zach Hamill has been cut by the Bruins. Other cuts of note this afternoon include Drew Larman and Kenndal McArdle in Florida and Marty Sertich, Tobias Stephen and Ivan Vishnevsky in Dallas.
All the Fantasy Pool Guides have been emailed out. Any orders from here forward will be emailed within two hours. There is truly nothing like this in stores or online - I guarantee the quality.
Dan Cloutier has been waived by the Kings. Naturally, this happens when I am halfway through emailing the update, so the Cloutier news is not in the updated guide. Bernier has been very impressive in camp...but don't crown him just yet, the Kings could be on the market for a goalie. Stay tuned.
I will be on Andrew Walker's radio show on 1067 the Drive in Red Deer Alberta on Sunday morning.
Petr Sykora (broken nose) was back in practice yesterday wearing a face shield. He will miss the coming weekend games, but should be back soon.
Tom Poti picked up two points for the Caps last night. This is the perfect situation for him and he will have a career year manning the PP for this team.
Karel Pilar had two assists as he tries to solidfy his spot as Atlanta's PP QB. He is a dark horse, although a risky Band-Aid Boy.
Hartley has made it clear in the first week of camp that the days of Lehtonen automatically starting games over Johan Hedberg are gone. Don't run out and grab Lehtonen assuming he's a lock for 65 starts. It sounds as if 55 might be the more accurate number.
Glen Metropolit has impressed the Bruins brass, but if he signs a contract it may come at the expense of David Krejci.
Steve Mason will debut in goal tonight for the Blue Jackets. The 19-year-old is coming off the super series...and with a pair of unreliable goaltenders in front of him in Columbus, who knows? He'll likely head back to London though.
Dan Fritsche suffered a hip pointer and will not practice for the next few days. David Vyborny, meanwhile, is back skating and should begin practice soon. Mike Peca is also suffering from "general soreness".
While there won't be any official cuts until Monday, Carbonneau all but confirmed that Huet will start the season as the No. 1 goaltender and that means Price will be in Hamilton.
Eric Maltais is running a similar expert league to what he ran last year. I finished fourth. Chris Burns is in my place this time around, looking to do DobberHockey proud. CLICK HERE for details...
From the Montreal Gazette: Saku Koivu will centre Christopher Higgins and Michael Ryder, while Tomas Plekanec will be between Alex Kovalev and Andrei Kostitsyn. Guillaume Latendresse will be on the checking line with newcomers Bryan Smolinski and Tom Kostopoulos, while rookie Kyle Chipchura will be between Steve Bégin and Maxim Lapierre. Mark Streit is slated as a top-four defenceman. Matt D'Agostini, Sergei Kostitsyn, Pavel Valentenko have futures in the organization, but need more experience.
Tomas Kopecky has a groin injury that will sideline him for a few days.
The Wings sent Cory Emmerton, Jan Mursak and Logan Pyett to their respective junior teams.
Minnesota rookie James Sheppard blew it last night. He was supposed to be preparing for a shift with Gaborik and Demitra. He messed up, someone jumped on instead of him and the team gave up a goal. Coach Jacques Lemaire was... upset...to put it politely. Sheppard played 7:43. And not at all after that.
TJ Hensick is a scoring machine in these playoffs. Three more points last night. Hlinka looked good as well. The Avs could be an offensive juggernaut. If Hensick has a Stastny-like rookie season...how would you stop this team?
Wojtek Wolski was pointless and a minus-2. I'm staying away from him in pools - his inconsistency scares me. His upside is great...but I'll let someone else take a chance. Unless he slips far far down the draft.
Brett Sterling scored again last night, further solidifying his spot on the Atlanta roster.
Tomas Fleischmann tallied two markers last night and played with Ovechkin. I'm liking how he looks on that top line.
Nick Foligno's two points last night for Ottawa further solidifies his roster spot. He'll make the team, post 30-odd points and 90 PIM's.
If you haven't selected a site to run your fantasy hockey pool yet, take a look at this:
Daniel Carcillo was the best player on the ice in the PHO-TOR game Thursday. Two points, a huge hit, buzzing all around. I said it before and I'll keep saying it - 35 points and 200+ PIM's this season.
Kyle Wellwood is again feeling discomfort in his groin. If his name is next on your draft list...and there is a reasonable alternative...go with the alternative. It's not worth it.
Bryan Rafalski missed last night's contest with that hip flexor injury.
Duncan Keith missed Thursday's contest and will not play Friday because of a sore groin.
NOTABLE CUTS FROM THURSDAY NIGHT/FRIDAY MORNING:
Eric Nystrom and Leland Irving, Calgary.
Bobby Hughes, Carolina.
Stefan Legein, Adam Munro, Columbus.
Bobby Sanguinetti, Tom Pyatt, NY Rangers.
Brett MacLean, Phoenix.
Ty Wishart, Mike Iggulden, San Jose.
Cory Emmerton, Jan Mursak, Detroit.
Updated POOL GUIDE will be emailed around noon or 1pm on Friday. It's 12:10am Friday as I write this...any fantasy guides that are ordered between now and the morning, I will just hold off emailing you the Aug. 1st version and just send you the Sept. 21 version around noonish. If that is a problem, just email me after you purchase and I'll send you the old one.
