Statement from Office Pools: Our friends over at Office Pools have asked me to publish their statement for them. You can read it here.
The Habs have signed M.A. Bergeron to a one-year contract. High risk/high reward here, but definitely worth a flyer. He will play in the AHL for now as he gets in shape, so that gives Yanick Weber about two weeks to really show what he can do. Ditto for Paul Mara. If the offense isn't there and the power play doesn't click, then Bergeron will have all the opportunity in the world. He has shown that in some instances he can produce as well as any rearguard in the NHL. But he gets benched a lot for poor work in his own end.
Angus here... you know the drill. Ask your fantasy hockey questions here!
Check out some awesome DobberHockey wallpapers I put together a few weeks ago.
Mathieu Schneider is inching closer to his debut as a Canuck. He proclaimed himself 85 or 90% there, and now it is about building up some shoulder strength. He will be a huge help to the powerplay with his vision, skating, and most importantly his huge point shot.
I'll be on the Hardcore Hockey show on Sirius at 1pm today.
Alex Goligoski has averaged 22:18 in ice time over two games. My one concern with him when making my projections was ice time. That concern is somewhat alleviated, though we're only two games in. He is a strong candidate to surpass 50 points this year.
Ruslan Fedotenko will be back in practice today. He missed practice yesterday and left the game Saturday with an undisclosed injury. Still, this could be the opening needed to get Chris Bourque into the lineup, so keep an eye out for that.
TSN is reporting that Sergei Kostitsyn will indeed report to Hamilton of the AHL now. I think he's done in Montreal though and his odds of going to the KHL are higher.
Sergei Shirokov managed to be a minus-3 in just 10 minutes of ice time. Welcome to the "real" NHL - not the "fake" NHL like you were tearing up in September. He'll need to shake this quickly, or he may never regain the confidence.
Michel Ouellet, Mark Bell, Kris Beech and Jonathan Filewich have all signed to play in Europe this season.
Michael Del Zotto - a power play goal last night. Gives him three points in three games. This is a rookie defenseman - he is for real and I now have little doubt that he'll shoot past 45 points this year. That will be enough to earn Calder consideration.
Speaking of rookie rearguards, Matt Gilroy scored his first NHL goal last night. He doesn't have near the upside as Del Zotto
Like many of you, I needed to find an alternative for the Office Pools site - either temporarily or permanently. As many of you know (and found out the hard way), our friends at office pools had a problem with their upgrade that has had their site down for much of the past several days. They have an option to go to "Office Pools Classic" now, but the players I punched into their new site did not transfer over to the classic site. Naturally, my first check for a replacement was with my friends over at Pickup Hockey. The price is right (FREE), but they couldn't handle my goaltending format. So on went my search. I found Armchair Pools. What a great new site. Very clean, very fast - I stumbled onto an issue where they were forcing you to invite users from your pool and would not let you put in their team until they accepted their invite. HOWEVER - that's where Dobber stepped in for ya. I approached them about the issue and they were quick to make the change. Now, simply by sending out the invite, I could then fill in the rosters. It took 40 minutes to put in 312 players. Can't ask for more than that. Armchair Pools can handle my rules. It has trash talk - I would rather it be a notification for each team as part of the standings, but instead they have it in its own section, but highlighted on the intro page and in a format that is more like a "chat". That will take getting used to, but has potential. They promise to be quick to add players to their database when I asked about several kids that were missing.. All in all, a very sleek and easy pool managing site. I was impressed with how my pool standings were updated as I entered in each team. Worth a look!

Re: Fantasy Guide No, an update isn't needed. I am done all of my drafts. I was just curious if another one was coming as I enjoy seeing the changes made like if you changed your mind on any player/goalies projections but you seem to do a nice job covering all of this in the ramblings anyways. For example, the Del Zotto rambling today. Keep up the good work! |

Fantrax.com I've started a new keeper league and also an office 1-yr salary cap league both with Fantrax.com. It's been outstanding! - 100% Free - SUPER customizable for any type of league you can throw at it - Their customer support is insane! If you have a question or recommendation, their guys respond to you within a day, sometimes within an hour!! - Interface can be a little clunky at first, but they're always looking to improve. Interface aside, all the features are there. - I am in no way affiliated blablabla... |

thehockeypool.com I've got to get the pool site we have been using for over 5 years now mentioned. www.thehockeypool.com You can customize point scoring in any way you can think of, trades are possible, it will store your team for keeper leagues, trash talk is there. There are new features being added all the time...the newest one lets you have a draft with your fellow poolies online. It is set up sort of like a newspaper page so every day the person who had the best night gets a headline. There are many random ones, or you can write your own. I am in no way affiliated with this site, but we have used it for years and really like it. Check it out. |

... We switched to www.poolexpert.com from officepools last year. Great site with player bios, sortable stats and best of all it keeps your team on file for the playoffs and to start up next season. Great for keeper leagues! |

... Don't expect much of an opportunity for Bourque because of Fedotenko injury scare. This from Pittsburgh Live. Penguins forward Ruslan Fedotenko did not participate in practice at Mellon Arena on Monday, two days after receiving a crunching hit from Islanders defenseman Brendan Witt. Fedotenko missed a portion of Saturday's game on Long Island but returned in time to score the game-tying goal. He is not expected to miss any playing time. Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said Fedotenko was having a "maintenance day," and that he is expected to return to practice today. With Fedotenko sitting out practice, newly acquired winger Chris Bourque filled in on the second line with Evgeni Malkin and Pascal Dupuis. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/penguins/s_646634.html |

Del Zotto Is there any chance Del Zotto only gets a 9 game audition? Will his even strength time improve as the year goes along? |

hockeyknight.com I'd go with hockeyknight.com for any serious keeper. They'll track anything for as long as you want (your drafts/trades etc). Once you get used to the format it is the best out there that I have found. I think it is 9 dollars a year, but for the price of a couple cheeseburgers... I see they have a feature now where you can make notes on your players that go with them, I'll have to look into that... |

More on hockeydraft Yes Dobber, Hockeydraft can also handle difffent size teams, carryover trades, split trades too. Trades can be set so that they are entered by the commish or by the poolies themselves. Reserve rosters are possible as well as only counting the top "x" number of players (even according to position if you like). If you only pay out the top 3 spots then you can set your standing to show those top 3 teams above everyone else. It looks great! Another nice feature is they provide a spot where you can add a link to your leagues discussion forum or website. I put a great big logo with Bauer font on my site and it gives our site a great hockey feel. Click on the banner and you are at your league site. I haven't seen that on any other stats provider. Their customer support has been awesome for me. There has been one problem in 3 years and they got back to me the next day. Sorry to rant but those other websites look bland and boring to me. Give credit where credit is due. |

Hockeydraft.ca Man I have no idea why anyone would choose officepools or even armchair. Take a look at hockeydraft.ca. Looks better, works better, lots of versatility for different pools, easy to use. You can even click on each player's name and get a bio. Keeper support. Plus they are Canadian! $20 a season. By the way I am in no way affiliated with this site I've just had good experiences and wanted to give them some props. |

Armchair pools That Armchair pools site looks pretty slick, does it have the capability to manage farm teams, handle trades, that sort of thing? |
