Default Wheeler... Does he stay in BOS??

Wheeler picked up a raise to 2.2 million for next season if Boston accepts the arbitrator's award that puts them over the cap..which doesn't even include what Seguin is going to get....Ryder + Sturm = $7.5 million of dead weight.

I guess we'll let the Leafs fans start talking about Wheeler to TO if Boston decides to walk away :P

2.2 mil for Wheeler. Man, how is the league/GM's ever going to get a chance to even out the field of Clarke McArthur and Blake Wheeler are getting these bucks. Ridiculous. I hope Boston can make it work but even more so I hope the NHL can start making this work.

Yes they will sign him. Chirelli is not the swiftest of GM's but to let a 1st round 5th overall draft pick walk does not make any sense. As a minimum they will sign him and then trade him for a prospect or a pick at least something but even that would be silly.

More likely is they dump Ryder and Sturm. It makes more sense to dump or waive Sturm then to let Wheeler walk.

Yeah there are 29 other teams in the league that would love to add a RW who's 6.5 and as fast as wheeler is...

Maybe the Leafs trade away their 2012 first and 2nd round picks for wheeler

Sturm should get buried in the minors...

Yeah but it wasn't Boston's first round pick, it was Phoenix that drafted Wheeler that early and they definitely reached on that pick. I could be wrong here, but I don't think you can trade a player that goes to arbitration for one year.

God, Marco Sturm is the Sami Salo of forwards, he's always seemingly injured. Waivers or an outright buyout of Sturm or Ryder would be one way to free up the $2M'ish required to keep Wheeler.

Don't confuse arbitration with an offer sheet. Teams are free to deal players awarded a contract via arbitration at any time. They cannot trade a player for 1 year that has signed an RFA offer sheet.

I have been saying this all along: STURM needs to go. They don't need this guy. And whoever thinks that he deserves a spot on the roster should watch every game this guy plays with the B's, he's teeeeeerible << as Charles Barkley would say.

Ryder is a bum aswell.

$7.5 million right there, get rid of them NOW..

There are still a few teams under the cap that could use a player like Ryder, who can score points just not as many as he used to, maybe a late pick would do it??

Not surprisingly Boston accepted the arbitration award for Wheeler.

Wheeler didn't get a raise, he actually took a hit since he made his bonuses last season he took home the full $2.87mil.
